About Meryll Montano

Meryll Melissa Montano

Hey there! My name is Meryll Melissa Montano (yes, my initials spell out mmm!) and I believe that despite all the chaos in our world, we each have the birthright to live a life filled with scrumptious and delicious experiences.

I am  a proud Filipinx-American, daughter of immigrants, Ayurveda Practitioner, vegan chef, and animal rights activist.

I feel and believe that I have an unwavering duty to help raise the vibration of the planet through sharing practices that infuse more compassion and awareness into a world that is becoming more and more depleted of love & kindness.

Origins:

Born and raised in Los Angeles, I grew up to two loving immigrant parents who did their ultimate best

to give their daughters everything and more.

Growing up as a first generation Filipina American came with its own challenges.

There was an unshakeable voice that echoed feelings of being misplaced, unworthy, and not being enough.

I have memories at the tender age of seven channeling these confusing emotions as hate towards my body.

Not knowing how to express my feelings and no seeds planted for inspired action towards self-care, I quickly grew self-conscious about my thick thighs, belly rolls, and every subtle aesthetic on my face- which I've now grown to love and adore.

However, as a young teen I learned to identify with my insecurities which eventually  led to a rocky road of various challenges.

Body dysmorphia, bulimia, yo-yo dieting, chronic constipation, anxiety, drug, alcohol, & sexual abuse became the sour fruits of suppressed emotions & poor relationship choices.

I observed the pendulum of my physical and mental health swing between extremes and felt my spirit starved of deep nourishment.

Between shame and guilt, I grew weary and tired of the weight I was carrying.

My healing journey began the moment I decided that I deserved love and to be loved unconditionally.

And so do you.

The Timeline:

In 2013, my healing journey and lifelong studies of Ayurveda began

In 2014, I made the decision to commit myself to the vegan lifestyle.

In 2015, I graduated from the Ayurveda Practitioner Certification Program at Southern California University of Health Sciences.

In 2016, I deepened my practice of yoga in Isla Mujeres, Mexico where I became a Certified Shivananda Yoga RYT-200 teacher.

In 2016, I served as a guest speaker at the AAPNA (Association of Ayurvedic Professionals North America)

 Ayurveda Food & Nutrition Conference.

In 2017, I completed Cornell University's Plant Based Nutrition Program.

In 2018, I began my Vegan Kamayan business as a means to honor and celebrate my heritage,

bridge the connection between intergenerations, and celebrate the flavors and traditions of Filipino cuisine.

In 2020, I became the Ayurveda consultant for Lotus Shores, a yoga resort based in Siargao, Philippines.

In 2021, I was a featured chef in VegWorld Magazine which is a magazine I used to read frequently at the start of my vegan journey in 2014.

Where I Am Going:

Healing is non-linear and it comes with many layers.

With each layer that unravels, I become more in alignment with the truth of who I am.

It's been 9 years since Ayurveda walked into my life and one of the biggest lessons that I've learned is that there is always room for more love  & grace when choosing the path of healing.

I went from feeling deeply insecure, frustrated, and uncertain to now embodying confidence, understanding, and freedom- all thanks to the wisdom of those who came before me.

As we walk this journey home, let's make our live's more scrumptious and delicious together-  shall we?
